What are the advantages and disadvantages of the scissor jack? What would you do to improve the disadvantages?

Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the scissor jack? What would you do to improve the disadvantages?

A: The main advantage of the scissor jack is that it is compact, and the main disadvantage is the relatively low weight that it can support.  If one were to combine hydraulic with a scissors design you may be able to support a higher load.
